Among the 23 players named was teen sensation Mary Fowler. The 16-year-old will become the youngest Australian to ever take part in a Women’s World Cup if she plays in France. Caitlin Foord previously held this title, having also debuted on the World Cup stage at age 16.
The Matildas are taking a mix of experience and fresh talent to the World Cup and have been tipped as one of several international teams with a real chance of winning the title.

Matildas star forward Sam Kerr is set to captain the side.
Lydia Williams, Clare Polkinghorne and Lisa de Vanna will play in their fourth World Cup in 2019.

Many other familiar faces have also been picked as part of the squad, including Steph Catley, Caitlin Foord, Laura Alleway, Elise Kellond-Knight, Emily van Egmond and Tameka Yallop.
Along with Fowler, Ellie Carpenter, Gema Simon, Aivi Luik, Amy Harrison, Chloe Logarzo, Emily Gielnik and Teagan Micah have been chosen in the World Cup squad for the first time.
