Ash Barty is all class as she gracefully bows out of Wimbledon

Ash Barty
Ash Barty’s Wimbledon campaign is now over after she lost 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in a fourth-round match yesterday against American Alison Riske. Barty won the first set, however Riske bounced back and took the next two.

Despite this loss (her first in quite a while), she has continued to garner admiration from the tennis community and the rest of Australia after a memorable post-match press conference and her dignity in defeat.

Barty’s maturity (which is way beyond her years) shone through as she spoke of the incredible few months she has had in tennis and that one game is not the be-all-and-end-all for her.

“Overall, it’s been a hell of a trip. Disappointed right now and obviously it’s a tough pill to swallow. But in the same breath, it’s been an incredible few months,” Barty told reporters after the match.

Barty continues to give credit to her support team, exclusively using the term “we” when talking about her recent achievements.

“New ground for me here at Wimbledon. This is the best that we’ve done, so very proud of what we’ve been able to achieve.”

When asked by a reporter if she would have done anything differently, Barty responded that she had no regrets.

“Nothing. Absolutely no regrets…I planned…we’ve planned our days and prepared as best we can and today wasn’t my day.”

“I didn’t win a tennis match. It’s not the end of the world. It’s a game. I love playing the game. I do everything in my power to try and win every single tennis match.”

“…give me an hour or so, we’ll be all good. The sun’s still going to come up tomorrow.”

Barty was recently crowned the women’s world no.1 and Australia has been in constant celebration of the ‘Barty Party’.

Praise for how Barty has handled herself during the (mainly) highs and lows of recent competitions has streamed in from everywhere and we’re guessing it’s not going to stop anytime soon.
