There’s still a significant amount of work to do when it comes to women’s workplace participation, as well as equal pay and leadership representation. But that shouldn’t stop us from recognising just how much has been achieved for women in the workplace, often against the odds.

We should especially consider the individuals who are driving change now — those who work as mentors, innovators, change champions or simply excellent managers to make the workplace a fairer and more inclusive one for women.

So today, we’re announcing the launch of the inaugural Women’s Agenda Leadership Awards. We’re calling for nominations across eight different categories that recognise leaders making a positive difference for women in the public and private sectors; celebrate leading women in management; and acknowledge the individuals making a difference through mentoring and championing change.

We’ll also award a gong to the female-friendly employer of the year, and welcome a Leading Australian Woman into the Women’s Agenda Hall of Fame.

While a panel of judges will help determine the finalists, this shortlist will be put to an online audience vote meaning we all get to have a say in the agents of change we’d like to see recognised. The winners will be announced 8 March 2013, on International Women’s Day.

The goal is to celebrate the agents of change: those who take the time, effort and a few risks along the way to foster a better work culture for women. These are the women – and men — bringing tomorrow’s workplace into reality today because as we know on Women’s Agenda, everything we’ve known about work in the past needs a rethink to better accommodate women in the future.
