There was plenty to celebrate for women in the media this year: A female-character driven film breaks box office records, Malala Yousafzai landing a place as one of Time’s 100 most influential people, the record number of women nominated for directing Emmy’s, Sweden cinemas implementing the Bechdel test for films.
“But some things aren’t changing fast enough,” notes The Representation Project, a non-for-profit organisation dedicated to exposing and analysing gender stereotypes in media in a powerful (and infuriating) video summary that highlights some of the worst representation of women this year.
Can you imagine a world where the media inspires women instead of degrading them? Miss Representation is calling on people to join them in challenging the negative representation of women and girls in pop culture, news and entertainment.
