Joining the likes of Olivia Rodrigo, Lily Allen, Halsey, and Billie Eilish – female artists who have spoken out against the overturning of Roe v. Wade – P!nk has told supporters of the U.S. Supreme Court decision to “Never f—ing listen to my music again”.
Last week, the multiple-Grammy award winning singer tweeted a message to those who supported the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade: “Let’s be clear. If you believe the government belongs in a woman’s uterus, a gay persons business or marriage, or that racism is okay- THEN PLEASE IN THE NAME OF YOUR LORD NEVER F—ING LISTEN TO MY MUSIC AGAIN. AND ALSO F— RIGHT OFF. We good?”
The tweet went viral, with many replying with their support for her statement. Political journalist Doug Sovern tweeted: “I love you! I’m an old white guy who has always loved your music and thinks you’re a brilliant songwriter, and your tweets are magnificent. Don’t let the haters bug you (I know you won’t).”
Another fan tweeted her support: “Didn’t think it was possible to love you more!! Cranking your music ALL THE WAY THE F UP!!”
Not all responses to her tweet were positive, but P!nk didn’t seem fazed by any backlash, responding to some of her critics by writing: “If you’re replying to my tweet whilst telling me how irrelevant I am….. hmmmmmmmmmmmm.”
Since last week, she has tweeted several times. One tweet explained her father’s political stance: “I love my dad, he was an old white guy too, with a big heart that fought for this country,” she wrote, responding to a tweeter fan who referred to himself as an “old white guy.”
“He believed that women should have the right to choose. He was also a republican who voted for Trump.”
In another tweet, the singer wrote, “The Supreme Court has stolen our basic right to control our bodies and futures. But together, we are a force of nature,” before linking a pro-choice website.
In her latest tweet over the weekend, she posted a picture of a microphone inside a home recording studio, with the message: “When they tell you to ‘shut up and sing’…. Okay then.”
P!nk’s support of abortion rights comes as many other musicians have spoken out about the Roe v Wade ruling. Last week, Olivia Rodrigo and Lily Allen used their slot at Glastonbury to comment on the issue, dedicating the song “F**k You” to the Supreme Court justices who voted to overturn Roe v Wade.
