The sporting community is mourning after the passing of AFLW player Jacinda Barclay this week, aged 29.
Barclay was a multi-talented athlete, competing at elite levels not just in AFLW, but also baseball and American football.
In her decorated sporting career, Barclay became a foundation GWS Giants player in the AFLW, playing four seasons and 23 games for the club.
She also represented Australia in five women’s Baseball World Cups, winning a silver and two bronze medals. She won a championship playing for the Chicago Bliss as a quarterback in the Legends Football League in the United States.
Her sudden passing has left the sporting community saddened and in shock.
GWS Chief Executive David Matthews said Jacinda was a much-loved member for the GWS GIANTS and AFLW community.
“Jacinda gave up a great deal to follow her sporting dreams around the world and we are grateful that she called our club home for four years,” he said in a statement.
“As an inaugural GIANTS AFLW player, Jacinda was a vital part of our club. More than that though, Jacinda’s spirit and infectious personality made her a popular and unforgettable member of the GIANTS family. She will always be a part of our club.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with Jacinda’s family and friends during this extremely tough time.”
