The 10 most unwanted ‘hard right’ politicians in Australia: GetUp Survey

Peter Dutton on Sunrise
Peter Dutton leads the list of unwanted “hard right” politicians, followed by Tony Abbott, according to a poll by GetUp last week.

The activist group put out the call to supporters to list their least-wanted “hard-right politicians” to determine a hit list for the upcoming Federal election, and have released the vote count for the 18 candidates it put forward as having the most “out of date” views.

And those leading the list all happen to be male, with the only women put forward – Nicolle Flint and Lucy Wicks — achieving less than 1000 votes each.

Dutton is far ahead on 22,028 votes, followed by Abbott on 15,932 votes.

George Christensen, the Liberal National party MP, took out third place on the unwanted list, with 6090 votes. Barnaby Joyce came in fourth on 5065 votes, while Christian Porter rounded out the top five on 4458 votes.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison also appears on the list, in the sixth spot with 3835 votes.

The final four in the top ten are Kevin Andrews (3600 votes), Craig Kelly (3190 votes), Greg Hunt (2312 votes) and Angus Taylor (1914) votes.

GetUp already has plans to campaign against Dutton in Dixon and held a public meeting regarding campaigning against Abbott in his seat of Warringah late last year. Just before Christmas, Susan Moylan-Coombs became the first person to officially put up their hand to run as an independent in the Sydney seat.

Dutton barely survived a massive swing against him in the seat of Dickson at the last election, hanging on by just 2000 votes. Labor’s candidate in the seat is Ali France, who describes herself as a mum, disability advocate, amputee, charity worker and “true believer”.

Voting in the poll has now closed. Check out the full list or results here and the top ten below.
