The 20 most ‘attractive’ large employers in Australia

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation has taken out the prize for the country’s most attractive employer, beating Virgin Australia, BAE Systems and the country’s 149 largest employers in the country.

ABC received the bragging rights at a ceremony in Sydney last night, as recruiter Randstad unveiled its list of the 20 most “attractive” employers in Australia, based on general public feedback of the country’s 150 largest employers.

The ABC was seen as being attractive due to the interesting jobs on offer, its learning and development opportunities, job security, career progression, workplace culture and strong work-life balance. It’s seen as being particularly attractive in two key categories: for women, and older employees between the ages of 60 and 64.

Other companies to appear on the list included Channel Seven (representing the first time the media industry’s appeared in the top 20), Qantas and a number of government departments.

First held in Belgium in 2000, the Randstad awards are hosted in 18 different countries. In Australia, the recruiter judges the largest 150 employers according to feedback from the general public, including research gathered from 7000 Australians. Organisations cannot nominate themselves to enter the awards.

Randstad’s Asia Pacific managing director Deb Loveridge says the stakes are high for Australian organisations when it comes to being considered “attractive”. “With people increasingly looking for employers who will reward their efforts and contribution to the organisation, being viewed as an employer who cares for and invests in their people has never been more important to secure and retain top talent in the years ahead,” she said.

“The market is becoming more and more competitive and people won’t wait around if there is a more attractive option available to them.

And it’s not just about salary and benefits “People will be attracted to employers if they offer the incentives, criteria and working conditions that match their changing expectations,”
