On Tuesday, Britney Spears’ younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears released her 240-page memoir, ‘Things I Should Have Said’, revealing “misleading or outrageous claims” about Britney, according to Britney’s lawyer Mathew Rosengart.
Overnight, Rosengart sent a letter to Jamie Lynn, instructing the 30-year old “cease and desist from referencing Britney derogatorily during your promotional campaign” for her new memoir.
“If you fail to do so or defame her, Britney will be forced to consider and take all appropriate legal action,” the letter read.
“Publicly airing false or fantastical grievances is wrong, especially when designed to sell books. It is also potentially unlawful and defamatory.”
The letter also expressed Britney’s belief that Jamie Lynn had “exploited her for monetary gain”.
Five days before the official release of her memoir, Jamie Lynn was interviewed on Good Morning America where she said her sister, ten years her senior, had behaviours which historically had been “erratic, paranoid and spiralling”.
She recounted an incident in their youth when Britney alleged “locked them in a room with a knife”, and other occasions which left her “scared”.
Jamie Lynn describes this incident in more detail in her memoir, writing: “Britney said to me, ‘Baby I’m scared.’ And she took a large knife from the kitchen, pulled me along to my room and locked us both inside. She put the knife in the bedside table drawer and simply repeated, ‘I’m scared.’ ”
She went on to talk about the incident with podcaster Alex Cooper, on the podcast, “Call Her Daddy“, saying, “I never felt like she was going to harm me or anything – it just felt weird.”
Britney tweeted her response to these allegations, saying, “Jamie Lynn … you’ve stooped to a whole new level of low. I’ve never been around you ever with a knife.”

“Please, please stop with these crazy lies for the Hollywood books,” she wrote. “Now and only now do I know only a scum person would make up such things about someone.”
Jamie Lynn has so far not responded to Britney’s threat of legal action.
Rosengart’s letter also accuses Spears’s father Jamie of financial misconduct during his management of the conservatorship, as well as hiring a private security firm to surveil Britney and those closest to her.
Last week, the New York Times reported that Britney is accusing her father of hiring the security firm Black Box for $6m to monitor her phone and her mother’s phone, downloading notes from her therapy sessions without permission, and illegally tracking the location of each person associated with her through GPS.
According to The Guardian, Rosengart made a court filing that states: “The allegations of misconduct against [Jamie Spears] are specific, credible and serious, ranging from abuse to conflicts of interest, financial mismanagement and corruption of the conservatorship to implicating state and federal criminal law.”
The court file accuses Jamie Spears of a series of other misdemeanours, including selling Britney’s childhood home to himself, charging exorbitant expenses for maintaining her property, sending money to a company owned by Jamie Lynn’s husband – a Louisiana businessman who operates and owns Advanced Media Partners, and approving high legal fees involving a large number of law firms.
Responding to the allegations of surveillance against their client, The New York Times revealed that Jamie Spears’ lawyer said, “All of his actions were well within the parameters of the authority conferred upon him by the court. His actions were done with the knowledge and consent of Britney, her court-appointed attorney, and/or the court.”
