NRLW recap: Knights secure back-to-back wins, as Roosters continue dominance

NRLW

The Newcastle Knights have kickstarted their NRLW campaign with back-to-back wins, marking a first for the club in the women’s game.

The Knights prevailed 16-12 over the Gold Coast Titans on Sunday at Cbus Stadium, scoring three tries to the Titans’ two. The Knights’ win also marked the first time the team has won a game away from home.

The win has placed the Knights in equal first position on the competition ladder, alongside the Sydney Roosters and St George Illawarra Dragons, who have each secured two wins in the first two rounds.

Roosters v Broncos

The Sydney Roosters cemented their position as top contenders this NRLW season on Saturday afternoon, when they triumphed 28-8 over the Brisbane Broncos.

The defending premiers have now recorded two wins from the two opening games of the season, remaining at the top of the ladder.

Roosters coach John Strange said he was really happy with the team’s effort.

“I was really happy with us, we created a lot of opportunities, we have still got some work there to improve, to make sure really ice those opportunities we create,” he said in a post-match press conference.

Eels v Dragons

St George Illawarra have continued their impressive start to the NRLW season, recording a 16-10 win over the Parramatta Eels after a tight contest.

The Dragons’ Teagan Berry scored her eighth NRLW career try, maintaining her position as the joint leading try-scorer in the competition.

“I’m always proud of the girls,” Dragons coach Jamie Soward said in a post match press conference.

“Coming in we knew that the Eels were going to be desperate and sometimes when you don’t play your best you have to fight and be gritty. I’ve got a really special group of girls.

“There are some lessons there of course…but I’m really humbled and happy to be the coach of this group.”
