Sarah O’Carroll named first Editor-In-Chief of Forbes Australia

Prominent business editor Sarah O’Carroll has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of the soon-to-be launched Forbes Australia.

Forbes is set to launch its local Australian publication, spanning both print and digital, in the third quarter of 2022.

O’Carroll, who has extensive experience in the Australian media industry, was most recently Editor-in-Chief of Yahoo Finance, a publication she launched in the Australian market in 2018. As its Editor-in-Chief, O’Carroll grew Yahoo Finance’s audience to more than two million monthly users.

Speaking about the launch of Forbes Australia and her new role, O’Carroll said the publication would be experience led and omnichannel, but would also foster the magazine’s print heritage.

“Magazines have always been my passion, but taking such an iconic brand into Australia will be about delivering the whole Forbes experience; print, digital, social and in person,” she said.

“Inspiring conversations that lead to change is something that has driven me throughout my career, and that’s what Forbes is all about.

“I’m happy and honoured to have this opportunity to build communities of leaders making an impact on Australia and the world.”

Michael Lane, CEO of Forbes Australia, said they were delighted to have O’Carroll at the helm of editorial.

“She has an exceptional track record for being innovative and passionate about the nation’s business landscape,” Lane said. “Sarah has a strong vision for Forbes Australia, and coupled with her digital expertise and leadership, will create a premier localised experience.”

O’Carroll has launched multiple new initiatives including the Women’s Money Movement, The New Investors Show and brought the All Markets Summit to Australia.

Before her time at Yahoo Finance, she held editorial and management role at News Corp and Private Media. She also runs her own content strategy consultancy.

O’Carroll is due to start her new role at Forbes Australia in April.
