Elon Musk tweeted a disturbing sexual comment to Taylor Swift following her endorsement of Kamala Harris for US president, and it left many social media users calling Musk out as “creepy”.
Following the live debate between Harris and Donald Trump on Wednesday, Swift came out in long-awaited support of Harris through a heartfelt Instagram post.
Within her message, Swift shared that her decision to endorse Harris was made in an effort to curb misinformation that has already occurred on how she’ll be voting. Last month, AI-generated images circulated online, falsely indicating that Swift was endorsing Trump, who even reshared the deep fake images himself.
Signing off her real post endorsing Harris, Swift referred to herself as a “childless cat lady” in a quip against Trump’s running mate, JD Vance’s failed use of the phrase towards Harris. Many women have already reclaimed the intended insult and turned it into a powerful call to action this election season.
Not long after Swift’s endorsement of Harris, Elon Musk posted a response to his platform X saying: “Fine Taylor… you win… I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.”
The message from Musk, who has pledged support for Trump in the upcoming election, left many social media users confused and disturbed.
Commenting on Musk’s post, users wrote things like “you are creepy and weird” and “this shit is creepy man”.
One user commented: “This tweet just takes things to a whole new level of strange. It’s not even eccentric at this point, just outright unsettling.”
And another said: “Sir you have reached unseen levels of divorced. No one has ever been more divorced than you in this moment.”
The keywords “STAY AWAY FROM HER” even began trending on platform X, in relation to pop-singer Demi Lovato’s memed comments “GET A JOB. STAY AWAY FROM HER”.
Musk’s estranged daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, took to Threads to call out his comment towards Swift as well, calling it “disgusting”, “belittling” and “incredibly sexist”.
Musk is the father of at least a dozen children from at least three different women. He has six children with his first wife, Justine Wilson, three with his ex-girlfriend Grimes and three with Shivon Zilis.
It’s been reported that Musk has a history of sexual harassment towards women at his company SpaceX. Earlier this summer, the Wall Street Journal reported he’d asked one of his employees to “have his babies” on multiple occasions.
In seeming contradiction to Musk’s sexual comment towards Swift, the rules for platform X, which he owns, states specifically that abusive content is prohibited.
“You may not share abusive content, engage in the targeted harassment of someone, or incite other people to do so,” the policy reads.
