Dr Rachel Matthews is an Australian author and lecturer known for blending tragicomedy with social commentary. Her notable works include Vinyl Inside, highly commended in the Australian Vogel Awards; Siren, a PhD novel on sexual violence in Australian football; and Never Look Desperate, a tragicomedy named among 2023’s ‘Best New Australian Fiction’ by The Australian and The Guardian. Her writing has appeared in The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald.
A regular ABC radio contributor, Rachel shares insights into storytelling and is praised by Michael Pavlich of ABC Radio Overnights as a "vibrant communicator." With over 15 years of teaching at RMIT and ACU, she leads Readers Are Writers workshops in Australia and internationally, empowering people to share their stories.
