Dr Rachel Matthews

Dr Rachel Matthews is an Australian author and lecturer known for blending tragicomedy with social commentary. Her notable works include Vinyl Inside, highly commended in the Australian Vogel Awards; Siren, a PhD novel on sexual violence in Australian football; and Never Look Desperate, a tragicomedy named among 2023’s ‘Best New Australian Fiction’ by The Australian and The Guardian. Her writing has appeared in The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald. A regular ABC radio contributor, Rachel shares insights into storytelling and is praised by Michael Pavlich of ABC Radio Overnights as a "vibrant communicator." With over 15 years of teaching at RMIT and ACU, she leads Readers Are Writers workshops in Australia and internationally, empowering people to share their stories.
