Alison Byrnes

Party: Labor
Alison Byrnes is the current member for the Labor-held seat of Cunningham. A Wollongong resident her whole life, Byrnes until recently worked for member Sharon Bird, who retired after 18 years in the role. Byrne was pre-selected unopposed after her main opponent, Australian Workers Union official and foreign correspondent Misha Zelinsky, who is currently reporting for Ukraine, withdrew. Byrnes main areas of interest focus on better funding for medicare, aged care and child care. She is passionate about reducing greenhouse gas emissions and creating more job opportunities – including apprenticeships – in renewable energy. Byrnes is married to NSW Member for Wollongong, Paul Scully.
