Janet Murray
Janet Murray is the Greens candidate for the traditionally Labor-held seat of Hunter.
The trained chemical engineer, who managed the blast furnace department at BHP’s Newcastle Steelworks for many years, is now a key member of local environmental groups.
Her focus in recent years has been the Bloomfield and Buttai Quarry committee – which has fought to stop Sydney’s waste from being diverted to the area.
Murray is passionate about community consultation on developments as well as developing sustainable, renewable energy throughout the country.
Having volunteered extensively in childhood education over the years, the mother of two’s policies also have a strong youth and free, quality education focus.
