Karen Stewart

Karen Stewart

Seat: Hume
Party: Greens
Karen Stewart is the Greens candidate for the traditionally Liberal-held seat of Hume.

The Camden local and mother of four has a long corporate background in accounting and advisory.

It is that background, she says, particularly in auditing, that has made her acutely aware of the need for strong economic policies and the inadequacies in government accountability.

Stewart’s family made headlines last year when her brother, Tim Stewart – a close friend of Prime Minister Scott Morrison – was identified as a supporter of the QAnon movement.

At the time Karen spoke of her concern over her brother’s radicalisation and her decision to notify the National Security Hotline.

Among her priorities are economic security for women, addressing the gender pay gap, affordable childcare and free tertiary education.

In addition to running for the seat of Hume, Stewart is studying a Juris Doctor via distance education.
