Kate Thwaites is the current Labor member for the seat of Jagajaga.


Thwaites was first elected to parliament in 2019 with the Labor party, earning a small positive swing towards her. Before entering politics, Thwaites was a journalist, working as an ABC reporter. She also worked as a senior adviser to Labor MP Jenny Macklin.


Thwaits says she believes in investing in a renewable energy future for job creation and reducing emissions, and wants to help reduce social inequality and homelessness. She is also focused on other issues like constitutional recognition of First Nations people and fund the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
