Penny Ackery

Penny Ackery is an independent candidate for the Liberal-held seat of Hume.

The former special needs teacher did not initially intend to run, however, her work on a local project drove her to put her name forward as a community candidate and she was eventually selected by a group of around 100 people.

Economic prosperity and jobs are at the cornerstone of Ackery’s campaign, along with building improved roads and infrastructure.

Improving the integrity of politicians is also a key focus along with reforms to political donation laws.

Ackery’s husband John, passed away from cancer in mid-April but insisted before he died that she continues her campaign.
