Alison Byrne has been appointed to the role of Chief Executive Officer of Victoria’s Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC).
Byrne comes to the role as a highly experienced executive with 25 years of experience in criminal law and regulation. She is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the County Court of Victoria.
The IBAC is Victoria’s anti-corruption integrity agency with jurisdiction over the public sector.
“I am delighted to be welcoming someone of Alison’s calibre to the role of IBAC Chief Executive Officer and I look forward to working closely with her upon her commencement,” IBAC Commissioner, Victoria Elliott said.
“Alison’s extensive experience as a lawyer and administrator across a range of public sector agencies will serve to enhance IBAC’s ability to meet its critical mandate of preventing and exposing public sector corruption and police misconduct in Victoria.”
Byrne started her career at the New South Wales Crime Commission, where she spent time in the Special Crime Unit, prosecuting offences including police and public office corruption, and gang related crimes.
Speaking about her appointment, Byrne said she was “thrilled” to have accepted the role and was looking forward to the opportunity “to work with its passionate and dedicated people to fulfil IBAC’s vital purpose of promoting integrity within Victoria’s public sector”.
Throughout her career, Byrne has led large-scale operations across legal services, customer experience, program management, compliance, risk and policy. She holds a Master of Business Administration, Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Social Science majoring in criminology.
Byrne will commence as IBAC CEO on August 19.
