Alyssa Healy breaks record for most wicket dismissals in T20 Internationals

Alyssa Healy broke a world record on Sunday, recording her 92nd dismissal as a wicket-keeper in Twenty20 internationals.

It is the highest number of dismissals by a woman or man ever in T20Is, surpassing the previous record of 91 dismissals held by Indian cricket legend MS Dhoni.

Healy was unaware she was about to break the record while playing, and was confused by commentators talking about MS Dhoni while she mic’d up with the Channel 7 commentary team.

“I had no idea about it. I was wondering why Mel Jones was asking me about MS Dhoni,” Healy said.

“I thought it was a very strange discussion we were about to have.”

Always humble, Healy said that the record reflected more on her team’s impressive bowling, than her individual performance.

“It’s obviously a nice individual accolade, but honestly, it reflects better on our bowling attack, than myself. It just shows the strength of our bowling attack that we’ve had throughout my entire career,” she said.

The record has cemented Healy’s reputation as one of the game’s best ever wicketkeepers, with her performance over the weekend helping the Australians to record an eight wicket win over New Zealand in the second of three T20 internationals.

The win in Brisbane has secured for Australia the series against New Zealand’s White Ferns, with one match remaining.

“There’s a lot of stuff that you do as a wicketkeeper that goes unnoticed … I’m always really content when I come off the field and I’ve had a good day behind the stumps, and I feel like I had a great day behind the stumps today,” Healy said.

Healy’s batting performance also helped the Australians come away with such a convincing win. In the fourth over, Healy smashed three consecutive fours and then a six. In total, she scored 33 runs off 17 balls.
