Amber Heard is celebrating the birth of her twins, after sharing the news on her Instagram on Mother’s Day. The 39-year old actor said that she is “elated beyond words to celebrate the completion of the family I’ve strived to build for years,” adding that “becoming a mother by myself and on my own terms despite my own fertility challenges has been the most humbling experience of my life.”
Heard is now a mother to three children. Her first child, Oonagh, was born in 2021. Her newborn daughter, Agnes, and son, Ocean, are “keeping [her] hands (and [her] heart) full.”
“Mother’s Day 2025 will be one I’ll never forget,” Heard wrote. “Today I officially share the news that I welcomed twins into the Heard gang.”
“When I had my first baby girl Oonagh four years ago, my world changed forever. I thought I couldn’t possibly burst with more joy. Well, now I am bursting times three!!!”
She continued: “I am eternally grateful that I was able to choose this responsibly and thoughtfully. To all the moms, wherever you are today and however you got here, my dream family and I are celebrating with you.”
Heard‘s representatives shared a statement to People following the birth of her twins, saying, “Amber is delighted to welcome the twins and complete her family. Mama and babies are enjoying every minute. And Oonagh is happily running the show.”
Heard announced the birth of her first daughter in July 2021, with sources telling Page Six that the child was born via surrogate.
She expressed her desire that the world had “arrive[d] at a point in which it’s normalised to not want a ring in order to have a crib” and that she “wanted to have a child” and “wanted to do it on my own terms.”
“I now appreciate how radical it is for us as women to think about one of the most fundamental parts of our destinies in this way,” she wrote on Instagram at the time.
Heard is best known for her roles in The Aquaman, The Rum Diary, Drive Angry, and Zombieland. She married her Rum Diary co-star, Johnny Depp in 2015. The couple separated a year later, finalising their divorce in early 2017.
The pair were subsequently embroiled in a series of legal battles against each other. In 2020, Depp lost a libel case against the British tabloid’s Sun newspaper over an article that called him a “wife beater”.
During that trial, Heard testified that she had feared for her life during several encounters with her then-husband. In the 2022 Depp v. Heard six-week trial in the US, a court in Virginia heard details of the pair’s volatile relationship.
Depp sued his ex-wife for defamation over an op ed she wrote for the Washington Post that alleged she was a domestic abuse victim, although it did not mention Depp by name. Heard counter-sued. Heard was eventually found liable for defaming Depp, with jurors awarding him £12m (AUD$24 million) in compensatory and punitive damages.
Heard won one of three counter-claims against Depp and was awarded US$2m (AUD$3.1 million) in compensatory damages. She moved to Spain after the legal battle with Depp ended in 2022.
