Mother-of-three Amira Moughnieh is being mourned by friends and family after her former partner allegedly murdered her at a home in Sydney’s South.
NSW police allege that Moughnieh, 30, was killed by her former partner, Ahmad Hodroj, 39, at his home in Bexley on Wednesday evening.
It’s understood that Moughnieh had been visiting Hodroj’s home, and according to court documents, the murder took place between 4:45 pm and 5:45 pm that day.
On Thursday morning, Hodroj did not appear in Sutherland Local Court when his matter was briefly heard and adjourned.
At the courthouse, friends of Moughnieh told The Sydney Morning Herald that Moughnieh had just gotten her Australian passport the previous Friday. She arrived in Australia in 2011, while her family lives in Lebanon.
Moughnieh had worked at Muslim Care in Bankstown, where she helped people shop and run errands. Friends describe her as a happy and kind person, who was “always laughing” and “loved life”.
The 30-year-old had dreams of studying fashion design, and friends said she was focused on her life and children in Australia.
There’s been an outpouring of tributes for Moughnieh from friends and family, with many sharing “my life, my sister, my life” online and one relative writing: “From the greed of this world, my sister is gone, gone”.
Hodroj will remain in custody until his next court appearance in Downing Centre Local Court on August 31. He did not enter a plea to the single count of murder on Thursday.
