‘An answer in under five minutes’: New health check tool for women

Her Health Check

A new digital health check tool has been launched in a bid to cut through the confusion around health checks for women.

Her Health Check by Jean Hailes for Women’s Health aims to make it easier for women to prioritise their health. It has been launched to coincide with Women’s Health Week.

The tool gives women personalised, evidence-based guidance on screenings and checks they may be due for. The advice is based on women’s age, cultural background and lifestyle.

It involves answering a short questionnaire and then receiving information on the health checks you should know about. Regular health check ups are an important way that women can stay healthy and identify any health problems.

There are many different kinds of health checks and they can include anything from blood pressure checks, cervical screening, breast checks or screenings, skin checks, dental checks and eye or hearing tests.

“Unfortunately, 42 per cent of Australians don’t know what health checks they should be having, and around a third of us are overdue for those checks. Those checks are critical for catching problems early enough for effective treatment,” said CEO of Jean Hailes for Women’s Health, Dr Sarah White.

“Women are busy, often putting themselves last, so we’ve created a quick and practical tool that gives them a clear answer in under five minutes.”

This year’s Jean Hailes Women’s Health Week theme is ‘say yes to you’, prompting women to prioritise their health. The week is Australia’s largest event dedicated to the health and wellbeing of all women, girls and gender-diverse people.

Twenty-five landmarks, including Federation Square in Melbourne and Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, will be lit up in purple to celebrate the week and bring attention to women’s health.
