In a commanding performance, Australia has maintained an unbeaten Ashes run with a seven-wicket victory in the second T20 against England.

The Australian side cruised to a dominant win in the penultimate match of the multi-format series, with Australia’s final score sitting at 3-122 (Perry 47 not out, Lanning 43 not out).

Ellyse Perry and Meg Lanning both made their mark on the T20, with an unbeaten batting partnership for the fourth wicket that accelerated the win for the Australians.

Perry finished unbeaten on 47 from 39 deliveries and Lanning followed up her previous 133 not out from the first T20 with 43 not out from 37 deliveries.

During the partnership, Perry set a record, becoming the first player, male or female, to reach 1000 runs and 100 wickets in T20 internationals.

“We’re a really successful side at the moment that is putting together some really complete cricket,” Perry said after the T20. “It has just been really nice to turn up every game and for us to perform and to find a way to win and win dominantly.”

“It was a pretty sweet victory,” Lanning said. “We came here to win the Ashes outright and that’s what we’ve done.

Perry credited the team’s impressive form with the professional set up of women’s cricket in Australia.

“It speaks volumes for how much our team has developed over the last six months and… how important our professional set up is back home,” Perry said.

“Not just the 15 girls here, the other 13 on the “A” tour and the domestic players back home who are literally training all year round now and that has been the case for a couple of years and I think it’s starting to really show up and pay dividends.”

Australia has officially won the multi-format Ashes series with a 12-2 lead over England with just one T20 to play. As it stands, Australia and England are the only two fully professional women’s teams and Australia have shown consistent dominance

The final match of the series, a T20 clash in Bristol, takes place on Wednesday.
