Former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Zoom, Kelly Steckelberg has been appointed as the next CFO of Canva.
Steckelberg has spent decades working across multiple industries, including software and technology at Cisco, online dating at Zoosk where she was the CEO, and most recently, at Zoom, where she spent the last five years leading it through the global pandemic surge and taking it public in 2019.
Her appointment comes nine months after Canva’s former finance chief Damien Singh stepped down after allegations of inappropriate behaviour surfaced. The design software startup launched an investigation into Singh after an anonymous message on an external platform raised questions within the company.
On Monday, Canva announced Steckelberg’s appointment in an email statement ahead of its planned initial public offering (IPO).
“Kelly’s impressive track record as a strong leader and strategic thinker, combined with her proven expertise in scaling enterprise companies, make her the perfect addition to our leadership bench,” Canva said in an emailed statement.
Steckelberg is based in Austin, Texas, and will commence her role at Canva on November 26.
During her seven years at Zoom, the video-chat company increased its market cap soar up to US$160 billion at the peak of the pandemic when users around the world were using the platform. In August, Steckelberg announced her departure from Zoom, where she has since been replaced by Michelle Chang, Corporate Vice President and CFO of Microsoft Commercial Sales & Partner Organisation.
