In a guest post for Forbes, Elissa Sangster, the executive director of the Forte Foundation, listed the top 10 traits of female business leaders and said the one thing they have in common is that they’re not deterred by the underrepresentation of women in business.
According to Sangster, top female business leaders have good insight and self-knowledge, aren’t afraid to take their career “off-ramp” (but they know where the on-ramp is) and they’re not afraid to ask for help.
Also, Sangster says women shouldn’t wait to be tapped on the shoulder and should get an MBA.
Interestingly, he recommends women “build a network” — but call it anything but a “network”, and to be flexible with their career options.
“Stay nimble, have flexible expectations, and don’t try to map your life decades in advance only to find that you’ve foreclosed opportunity,” he recommends.
