Female DJs partner with universities to inspire more female engineers

Women make up just 19% of students enrolling in engineering degrees, making the field one of the lowest attracting women across all courses.

So to help address the massive disparity, eight universities have partnered with female DJ duo Nervo to kickstart a new movement. The duo both studied sound engineering and recalled being the only girls in the classroom. “We loved the chance to show the world that there is engineering in every aspect of our lives,” they said. “We’re sound engineers, but our whole show is only made possible through expert engineering. From the makeup we wear, to the lights and the stage we perform on. Engineering makes it all possible, including the music that we make.”

Called Made By Me, the campaign launched nationally on Friday, with the release of Nervo’s new song and video clip, People Grinnin’ ft The Child of Lov.

The universities behind the campaign include UQ, UNSW, UOW, Monash, Melbourne, UWA, ANU and Adelaide, and have also funded a microsite featuring behind-the-scenes clips from the video.
