It’s been a big week for former Australian of the Year Grace Tame. On Wednesday, she delivered a speech, alongside Brittany Higgins, that will go down as one of Australia’s most memorable.
Tame spoke boldy, calling out the Prime Minister for his actions – or, more to the point, lack of action – over the past year. Unapologetically, she spoke truth to power as she shared her story as an advocate and survivor of child sexual abuse.
On Thursday afternoon, she posted an image to Twitter that really brought home just how much of an impact she has had on Australia since she was named Australian of the Year at the beginning of 2021.
“And this, today, on the students’ uniforms at the high school where I was abused 12 years ago. This is what embracing and making change looks like,” she posted.
St Michael’s Collegiate, the school in Hobart where Tame was groomed and sexually abused by her teacher, have decided to honour her by choosing the Grace Tame Foundation as the major charity the school will support.
Pulse Hobart reported that the school’s students voted to support the foundation this year through fundraisers and the logo of the Grace Tame Foundation is also embroidered on the arm of Year 12’s school jumpers.
Tame’s charity, The Grace Tame Foundation, is a not-for-profit organisation designed to campaign for and fund initiatives working to prevent and respond to the sexual abuse of children and others.
