Mustard Made co-founders Becca and Jess Stern have created an empire by selling colourful lockers reminiscent of school days but infinitely more stylish and sophisticated. As the brand approaches six and a half years, the sisters-turned-business owners wanted to celebrate how Mustard Made has ‘grown-up’ since its inception.
And how do most people mark a momentous milestone? With a glass of champagne.
Cue, Mustard Made’s fluted glass collection.
Made in collaboration with FAZEEK, a Melbourne homewares brand known for its iconic glassware, Becca says the collection has been in the works for two years.
“As long-time lovers of their beautiful glassware, FAZEEK was the dream brand for us to create a product collaboration with,” she tells Women’s Agenda.
“We have featured FAZEEK products in our photoshoots, gifted our whole team a set of their coupe glasses, and of course, we love the echoes of our logo in the shape of their glasses. But more than that, we were so excited to work with a brand that aligns with our values and loves to bring colour and joy into people’s everyday lives.”
As Australian, female-founded businesses that centre each of their products around colour, Jess describes the lightbulb moment that led her to realise this newfound opportunity was too good to miss.
“As a brand that has, up until now, focused on metal products, introducing glass into our product range is something we want to celebrate. We really want to mark this new era for Mustard and this was an opportunity to partner with a brand we admire. The partnership meant we got to create a unique product in a material that sits outside of our wheelhouse, but [also] aligns perfectly with our new glass collection.”
The fluted glass collection is a limited edition range that brings together FAZEEK’s iconic design with Mustard’s signature colour palette. Consisting of the Kit, the Mixer and the Collector, these three locker styles combine the essence of Mustard Made’s original collection with FAZEEK’s fluted glass windows to create an elevated storage piece for your space.
There’s also the Flutes, a pair of hand-blown flute glasses designed to bring a pop of colour to your special occasions.
All pieces are available in a spectrum of colours – and colour is something that is paramount for both brands. Far from being randomly selected, Becca reveals that there’s an in-depth decision-making process behind every new addition.
“From a colour perspective, we definitely consider trends we see emerging in the interior design space when we are adding a new colourway to our rainbow, but most importantly, any new colour needs to fit with our existing rainbow.
“We spend a long time selecting the shades we bring into our rainbow. We tend to do this in a very IRL way, with paint swatches, scraps of fabric, ripped pages in magazines and colour reference books. We look for the perfect shade to sink right into our existing range, as if it was always meant to be there. We’re aiming for cohesion in the family, while ensuring that a new colour brings something new and unique to the lineup.”
Mustard Made doesn’t intend to stop with glassware. When asked what’s next for the brand, Becca teased: “Watch this space.”
