It’s easy to think that improving our wellbeing is an overwhelming task, one that’s too difficult to navigate on your own especially when you’re experiencing burnout.

But we shouldn’t underestimate the power of small, intentional changes, founding CEO The Banyans Health and Wellness, Ruth Limkin says.

Limkin is one Australia’s foremost leaders in healthcare. As chief exectuve at The Banyans, a private, residential rehabilitation retreat located in southeast Queensland, Limkin oversees the delivery of research-based therapies for individuals experiencing depression and anxiety, chronic stress and burnout, drug and alcohol dependency and addiction, eating disorders, and other co-occurring or additional conditions.

What’s one key thing you’re working on right now that you’re really excited about?

There’s so many things! I am always very excited about initiatives that creating conversations that matter, and we are doing this in a range of ways that are low key but high impact. Leaders need encouragement and practical tools to help acknowledge and navigate pressure and stress and these initiatives are very dear to my heart. We are also looking at how we can bring The Banyans to locations outside of Queensland

Can you share a key thing you regularly do (or aspire to do more) that really supports your personal wellbeing?

Bring in nature is something that I build into my life that always has a profoundly positive impact on my wellbeing – and it doesn’t cost anything!

 

What do you want more women to know about their health?

I want women to realise that they don’t have to ‘do better’ to get better. Often we feel like it’s very overwhelming to address our wellbeing and we need to simplify our approach to this.

What do you wish more women knew about burnout and how to navigate it?

I wish women knew that making small, intentional and simple changes can have an outsized positive impact.

What do you love most about your role at The Banyans?

I love seeing leaders get healthier and their organisations and communities get healthier!
