Let’s call Leyonhjelm’s toxic antics out for what they are: A shameless self-promotion

Any publicity is good publicity, right? That’s the motto David Leyonhjelm is clearly clinging to.

This morning, the independent Senator unleashed another sexist tirade through Fairfax on Malcolm Turnbull, labelling the Prime Minister a “pussy” and a “soft cock” for defending Sarah Hanson-Young who he also accused of “grandstanding” for media gains.

Overnight, the PM condemned Senator Leyonhjelm for his words to Hanson-Young during a parliamentary debate in which Leyonhjelm, (genius that he is) instructed the Greens Senator to “stop shagging men” if she was so worried about the issue of gendered violence.

Malcolm Turnbull appealed that it was “not too late” for Senator Leyonhjelm to make up for the “offensive” comments, which were unprecedented in Parliament.

“That type of language has no place in Parliament, it shouldn’t have a place in any workplace,” he said. “Respect for women in particular is one of the highest priorities that we should be focused on.”

Minister for Women, Kelly O’Dwyer supported the Prime Minister’s position, urging Senator Leyonhjelm to apologise: “People have a right to be treated with dignity and respect in their workplaces. An apology is clearly in order for the comments made.”

Hanson-Young has since filed to sue Leyonhjelm for defamation with Kennedys Lawyers, claiming the slur has caused “significant harm”.

“She loves playing the victim, it’s about the only thing she’s good at,”Leyonhjelm said in response.

Thankfully media commentators and the public are beginning to see through the charade, calling Leyonhjelm out for his thinly-veiled (and pathetic) pursuit to boost his own profile.

Put a fork in him, he’s done.
