Malala Yousafzai is coming to Australia to share her remarkable story

Nobel Peace Prize recipient Malala Yousafzai will be making her first trip to Australia later this year.

She’ll be speaking at events in Melbourne and Sydney in December, organised by the The Growth Faculty, headed up by Karen Beattie.

Yousafzai began her life as an activist campaigning for girls’ education at the age of just 10, when she was blogging about her life under the Taliban in Pakistan. She was shot by the Taliban at the age of 15, while travelling home on a school bus with friends.

Malala received specialist treatment in Birmingham following the attack, and six months later had recovered well enough that she could return to school.

Malala received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 and she continues to fight for children’s education across the world, including while now studying at Oxford University. She established an international fund to promote girls education, called the Malala Fund.

“Malala has taken her fight to improve girls’ education to the world stage. Now, for the first time, she’ll be on an Australian stage to inspire us with her remarkable story,” said Karen, in making the announcement this morning.

The Growth Faculty was previously responsible for bringing out Hillary Clinton earlier this year, for a series of speaking tours in Australia and New Zealand.
