Australian golfer Minjee Lee has claimed her 10th LPGA Tour title, winning the BMW Ladies Championship title in South Korea on Sunday.
Lee entered the final round of the tournament tied for the lead with American Alison Lee and headed into a playoff.
Minjee Lee defeated Alison Lee in the playoff, marking her second win in just over a month having also won the Kroger Queen City Championship in September.
This latest title also means Lee has achieved an unprecedented feat with her younger brother, Min Woo, who had won the Asian Tour’s Macau Open just days before. The siblings now have a golfing family double to their names. It’s the first time in history a brother and sister have won professional golf major tours within a week of each other.
After the win, Lee noted that the win in South Korea was particularly special because it paid homage to her Korean heritage.
“Out of all the places [to win], Korea was always at the top of my list because my parents are Korean and I have a heritage to Korea,” Lee said.
“This one is special, and especially having all of my family and extended family and friends coming out to cheer for me today, it was really cool to see them on the sidelines when I was walking down.”
Minjee Lee’s win on Sunday saw her awarded the competition’s first-place prize money of $330,000. At 27 years old, Lee is currently Australia’s highest paid female athlete.
At the US Open in last June, Lee won the largest pay cheque in women’s golf history at US $2.5 million.
Lee is ranked 7th in the world. She also now joins Australian golfing legends Karrie Webb and Jan Stephenson, in becomning the third Australian to win 10 or more LPGA Tour titles.
