Sam Kerr has led Chelsea to win its third straight women’s FA Cup, scoring the winning goal in front of a record-breaking crowd at Wembley.

Chelsea beat Manchester United 1-0 in the final, with Kerr scoring in the 68th-minute to secure the victory for her team

The final was played in front of a massive crowd of 77,390 fans, a figure that smashed the previously held crowd record for a women’s domestic club football match – 60,739 in 2019.

Kerr, who is also the captain of Australia’s national team the Matildas, was named player of the match, and delighted fans with her signature back flip after scoring the game’s only goal.

Ever humble, Kerr accepted the player of the match accolade, but said “I don’t deserve this. There are people way more deserving than me today, but I will take it on behalf of the team.”

Kerr’s performance in the final on Sunday followed wins in two previous FA Cup finals. It was also Kerr’s 10th goal in seven domestic cup finals.

Speaking after the game, Kerr said Chelsea hadn’t played their best but managed to push through for the win.

“We didn’t have our best game today, but that’s a sign of a great team when you just push through,” said Kerr. “Everyone did their part, and we stuck with it and won.

Chelsea’s manager Emma Hayes had nothing but praise for the Australian captain.

“I’ve never coached a player like Sam Kerr,” said Hayes.

“She has such conviction, courage, the way she attacks everything. I love that she’s willing to take responsibility at the top end of the pitch.”
