Matildas’ captain Sam Kerr has been named in the FIFA FIFPro’s Women’s World XI, a global award voted by players that celebrates the world’s best players in the current game.

Kerr makes the FIFPro list for the first time in her career, in recognition of her performance between August 2021 and July 2022. The award is the only global player award decided exclusively by players, with players from 68 countries voting for the “World 11”.

Kerr is the only Australian player to be named in 2022 list. She was previously shortlisted in 2020 and 2021.

Kerr helped her club Chelsea win back-to-back Women’s FA Cup titles, as well as the Women’s Super League (WSL) title. She was awarded second place for Best Women’s Player of the Year at this year’s Best FIFA Football Awards, and also won the 2021/22 WSL Golden Boot after scoring 20 goals in 20 games.

During this period, Kerr also became the first woman to appear on the global cover of the best-selling FIFA game, a momentous moment for women in sport.

The recognition for Kerr comes ahead of the FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted in July this year in Australia and New Zealand.
