Sandra Bullock’s best life advice: Don’t pick your nose and more

Imagine if every high school graduation came with some wise words from one of Hollywood’s leading ladies.

Earlier this week Sandra Bullock dispensed some of her best life advice to the graduating class at Warren Easton Charter High School after surprising them at their graduation ceremony.

The Oscar-winning actress, who donated money to the New Orleans high school after it was damaged during Hurricane Katrina in 2005, shared some of the hard earned wisdom she’s picked up throughout her 30-year Hollywood career, telling the graduating class that the advice she was sharing was what she told her 4-year old son and what she wished someone had told her early on.

Though her advice was intended for a high school audience we think Bullock’s shared a few pretty important reminders that would serve us all on embracing failure, finding joy and of course … not picking our noses in public.

Practical advice:

“Do not pick your nose in public. How about we just go get a tissue?”

Health advice:

“Eat something green with every meal.”

Don’t worry if not everyone wants to play with you

“If someone doesn’t want to play with you, it’s okay. It’s okay. Not everyone is going to love us; go find someone who does want to play with you and who appreciates what you have to offer, and inspiring.”

Embrace failure

“For some reason, people out there want to see you fail but that’s not your problem — that’s their problem. I only remember the moments when I tried beyond what I thought I could do, and I do not remember the failures because I didn’t. Nothing is a failure, it’s just not supposed to work out that way because something better is supposed to come along.”

Stop worrying so much

“The unknown we can’t do anything about, and I don’t remember any of the moments in my life where I worried. So that’s a lot of time I couldn’t get back.”

Find your joy

“Whatever that is, go find your joy. Are you going to have a good day or are you going to have a great day? Because it’s completely up to you. It’s what you’re going to remember in the end. You’re not going to remember how you worried, the what-ifs, the whys, or who wronged you. It’s the joy that stays with you”.
