Feminism is so hot right now. This week American comedian Aziz Ansari used an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman to publicly declare his allegiance to the feminist cause and to question those who shirk from it.
To illustrate his point he drew on Beyonce and Jay-Z: “You’re a feminist if you go to a Jay-Z and Beyoncé concert and you’re not like, “Ifeel like Beyoncé should get 23% less money than Jay-Z,” he said.
“Also, I don’t think Beyoncé should have the right to vote and why is Beyoncé singing and dancing? Shouldn’t she make Jay a steak? , I’m sure he’s very tired after walking and rapping those two songs.”
The comedian and star of Parks & Recreation, Ansari explained that his new girlfriend had introduced him to “feminism” and had learned that most people are actually feminists, they just don’t realise it.
After asking others the audience for a round of applause if they were also feminists and receiving a lukewarm response, he launched into his bit, responding to those who didn’t clap.
“Now here’s the thing. There’s a lot of people who didn’t clap,” he said.”But I don’t believe you. Because if you look up feminist in the dictionary, it just means someone who believes men and women have equal rights. And I feel that everyone here believes men and women have equal rights.”
