If you were to demonstrate ‘running like a girl’, how would you do it?
A new ad by sanitary brand Always is seeking to reclaim the insult ‘Like a Girl’ and set the record straight on stereotypes. And it’s achieving some records of its own, with 29 million views online to date.
Judging by the number of advertising campaigns being used to empower women, they’re clearly striking a chord.
There’s the Pantene ads which points out that women say ‘sorry’ too often, Dove’s Real Beauty campaigns and now the Like A Girl campaign.
The campaign highlights how these gendered insults do more than just disempower girls. The video, created by award-winning documentary filmmaker Lauren Greenfield, highlights how people of all ages interpret the phrase “like a girl” differently and how it relates to the declining confidence for girls once they hit puberty.
