The artist showcasing Aboriginal culture to the world at the Australian Open

Bobbi Lockyer

Bobbi Lockyer is showcasing Aboriginal art and culture to the world at this year’s Australian Open, with her vibrant artwork featured across the tournament.

Lockyer, a proud Ngarluma, Kariyarra, Nyul Nyul and Yawuru woman, is the official artist of the 2025 Australian Open. Her work is prominently featured on one of the most iconic spots of the tournament—on the steps of the entrance to the Margaret Court Arena.

Her work will also appear on limted edition Australian Open merchandise.

“It was absolutely incredible seeing my artwork at the Australian Open in real life and witnessing everyone’s positive response to it,” Lockyer told Women’s Agenda this week.

“My vision was to create a piece that embodies unity and inclusivity, bringing people from all walks of life together through the spirit of tennis.”

Hailing from Kariyarra country in Port Hedland, Lockyer is one of Australia’s most exciting artists. Her art and photography has been featured in Vogue magazine and her fashion has graced the runway of Paris Fashion Week. In 2021, she was recognised as the NAIDOC artist of the year.

Lockyer also uses her art, fashion and photography as tools for advocacy, focusing on social justice issues, including Indigenous rights and women’s rights. She’s passionate about amplifying marginalised voices.

Recently, her distinctive art style has led to partnerships with major brands like Motorola, Big W, and Woolworths.

Lockyer’s artwork at the Australian Open was commissioned by Tennis Australia and is designed to tell a story of unity and inclusivity, while celebrating Aboriginal culture.

“I feel so proud to have the opportunity to showcase Aboriginal culture to the world, ensuring that Indigenous people feel represented and celebrated on such a global stage,” Lockyer said.
