Scarlett Johansson has added a long list of achievements to her CV over the years including, a BAFTA, a Toronto Film Critics accolade, A British Film Academy award and a Tony.
She’s also played key parts in acclaimed films such as Lost in Translation, Girl with a Pearl Earring and The Other Boleyn Girl.
She’s been an advocate for women’s positive body image, the #MeToo movement and a fierce and vocal critic of Donald Trump.
She did not however, funny as it may seem, audition for the part of Tom Cruise’s girlfriend.
On Wednesday’s episode of Megyn Kelly Today on NBC, former Scientologist Brendan Tighe recounted an experience of accidentally stumbling across reports of women who had auditioned to date Tom Cruise during a time when he worked as a member of Cruise’s Scientology security unit. Tighe said he remembered Johansson from the documents because hers was the only name he recognised.
Johansson hit back straight away with a statement to The Hollywood Reporter — essentially a big, resounding ‘NOPE’.
“The very idea of any person auditioning to be in a relationship is so demeaning”, she said. “I refuse for anyone to spread the idea that I lack the integrity to choose my own relationships. Only a man aka Brendan Tighe would come up with a crazy story like that.”
We couldn’t have put it better ourselves.
