Alanis Morissette juggling work & parenting on The Tonight Show is magic

We already know she’s a badass, but Alanis Morissette just went next-level.

She embraced the juggling act of so many working parents in her latest appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, performing a song about parenthood while parenting, with her daughter, Onyx, on one hip. She checks in with her daughter from time to time, “Is it too loud?”

The song, ‘Ablaze’, is from Such Pretty Forks in the Road, her first new album since 2010, which was released on 31 July. The song’s dedicated to her three kids and includes the chorus, “My mission is to keep the light in your eyes ablaze.”

Alanis Morisette sang for generations of young women when her second album, Jagged Little Pill, came out in 1993. With a voice that rang out across rock genres, and lyrics which embodied raw anger, power, and beauty, she swept global airwaves, winning multiple awards in 1996 and 1997, including Grammys for Album of the Year and Best Rock Album.

Since the birth of her first child Ever in 2010, she’s used her platforms to speak openly about her experiences with attachment parenting, unschooling and postpartum depression (PPD).

In an interview with Health magazine in May this year, she said, “I realise that the more I share vulnerably — it makes life easier.

“I feel more connected with other human beings. Humans have always seemed dangerous to me. I notice, though, that when I share my shame with a non-judgmental listener… life feels safer. That kills me… that the answer is moving further toward the safe people in my life.”

Thanks for sharing yourself with us, Alanis.
