Margot Robbie cast in Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights

Margot Robbie cast as Cathy Earnshaw in Emerald Fennell’s new adaptation of Wuthering Heights

Margot Robbie and fellow Australian actor Jacob Elordi will be playing star-crossed lovers in British director Emerald Fennell’s next film, a new adaptation of Emily Brontë’s “Wuthering Heights.”

First reported in Deadline, Robbie and Elordi, who are among the most sought after actors in Hollywood today, will work with Fennell to adapt the popular book, which was published one hundred and seventy-seven years ago.

Fennell, 38, will write, direct and produce the book’s fifth ever screen adaptation with backing from Robbie’s production company LuckyChap.

Fennell’s version of “Wuthering Heights” will be her third collaboration with LuckyChap, which Robbie runs with her husband Tom Ackerley and friend Josey McNamara. LuckyChap also produced Fennell’s 2020 film, “Promising Young Woman” and last year’s “Saltburn”, which starred Elordi.

Fennell had tentatively revealed plans for her next movie back in July, when she tweeted on X: “Be With Me Always. Take Any Form. Drive Me Mad,” a famous quote spoken by the heroine of “Wuthering Heights.”

Emily Brontë’s most famous novel has been adapted for screen several times throughout history — the first in 1938 by William Wyler starring Merle Oberon as Cathy and Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff; Peter Kosminsky’s 1992 adaptation starring Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes; Coky Giedroyc’s 2009 mini series starring Tom Hardy and Charlotte Riley; Andrea Arnold’s 2011 adaptation starring Kaya Scodelario and James Howson.

Production on Fennell’s adaptation will not begin until next year, so it’ll be a while until we eventually see the movie. But, yes, we’re pretty excited.
