Ash Barty’s very long No. 1 streak continues with Adelaide title

Ash Barty looks set for another Stella year in tennis after winning the Adelaide International over the weekend and entering her 111th week as the world’s number one tennis player.

Barty took straight sets 6-3, 6-2 to win over Elena Rybakina, currently ranked 14th, giving Barty her 14th career title.

It was her second Adelaide title in three years, with the win also seeing Barty now boasting an impressive 17-1 win rate against players ranked in the top twenty since the beginning of 2021.

The win also follows Barty ending2021 as the world number one player for the third consecutive year in a row, becoming one of only five female players to ever do so including Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova, Serena Williams and Chris Evert.

Marking an exceptional Sunday, Barty followed up her singles title with another win alongside partner Storm Sanders in the women’s doubles final, with the pair winning 6-1, 6-4 over Darika Jurak from Croatia and Andrea Klepac from Slovenia.

Barry’s path to winning this latest singles title also included victories over Coco Gauff as well as Iga Swiatek and Sofia Kenin.

Barty will now play in the Sydney Tennis Classic before going on to compete in the Australian Open from January 17.
