‘Next stop Paris’: Canoeist Jessica Fox becomes first to win three gold medals at a World Cup

Australian canoeist Jessica Fox has won three gold medals at the Canoe Slalom World Cup, making her the first person to achieve such a feat.

Ahead of next month’s Olympic Games, the string of victories brings her World Cup medal tally to 51, after taking out all three canoe slalom events in Krakow, Poland.

The first gold at the World Cup over the weekend came from Fox’s victory in the women’s K1 kayak final, producing a penalty-free performance in a time of 93.49.

Her second gold came 24 hours later, in the canoe final, despite recording a two-second penalty. Her time came to 100.71, ahead of Brazil’s Ana Satila (105.99).

“I’m really happy with that race, I had a good top section and just tried to build the run as I went,” Fox said about her canoe final win.

“I attacked the course and ended up finishing with a good time despite the penalty for the touch, so I’m really pleased.”

“Winning the double at a World Cup is always really special and to realise I’ve done it nine times now is amazing,” Fox said.

“I think I’ll have to really try and get a 10th to make it sound even better. It’s been a fantastic start to the season and we’ll continue building now for Paris.”

“I’m really pleased that this is my 50th gold too, it’s been a fantastic start to the season and we’ll continue building now for Paris 2024.”

Finally, on Sunday, Fox brought that number to an incredible 51 by nabbing her third gold medal in the women’s kayak cross final.

The win was her seventh World Cup Gold in the last six weeks, meaning she’s more than well prepared to compete at her fourth Olympics next month. In Paris, she competes in the women’s K1 and C1 events.

“It’s been a huge few weeks full of highs and lows, to finish this World Cup block this way is so special. Next stop Paris,” Fox wrote on social media.

Already a four-time Olympic medallist, Fox holds one gold, one silver and two bronze medals. Her most notable victory has been when she won the gold in the women’s C1 slalom at the 2020 Tokyo Games.
