Scott Morrison still thinks Australians want to hear him speak. In fact, he’s banking on that so much that he’s set up with an agency which charges up to $100,000 for speaking engagements.
Our former PM who lost the federal election in spectacular fashion only five months ago, is positing himself as a “global thought leader” and an expert on a range of topics including “The Future of Globalism”, “Covid-19: Lessons from The Great Disruption”, “Navigating the Indo-Pacific”, “The Net Zero Global Emissions Economy” and “Faith, Religion and Technology in Liberal Democracies”.
“After extensive research and due diligence, I am excited to be joining Worldwide Speakers Group who will help facilitate my growing relationships within the private sector,” Morrison said in a media release.
WWSG posted its own update lauding Morrison as “the true definition of a leader with a 360° worldview” and “a virtuous globalization mastermind”.
There’s so much that could be commented on/ridiculed about this announcement, but to condense it all quickly, let’s take a quick jog down memory lane and look at ten occasions where our former PM was anything but “the true definition of a leader”.
‘We don’t want to see women rise’
Remember International Women’s Day 2019, when our newly elected PM announced: “We want to see women rise. But we don’t want to see women rise only on the basis of others doing worse.” This was during a period when there were more men called Andrew on the ASX 200 than women…
Brian Houston BFF
Always one to play by the book, Morrison never used his platform for anything dodgy. Oh wait…didn’t he try to snag controversial Hillsong Church leader Brian Houston an invitation to the White House?
‘Needless anxiety’
Youth activist Greta Thunberg copped it from Morrison for “raising the anxieties of children in our country” when addressing the threat of climate change. Never mind the anxiety raised by his government for propping up fossil fuels.
Cricket as the antidote to bushfire crisis
“Going to be a great summer of cricket, and for our firefighters and fire-impacted communities, I’m sure our boys will give them something to cheer for.” This was the winning leadership offered during the start of one of Australia’s worst-ever climate-related disasters.
A Hawaiian escape
Taking the cake as one of the most colossal eff ups a leader has ever made. Morrison’s later excuse in which he told the country: “I don’t hold the hose”, was equally shameful.
His issue with women
Refusing to take a stand with ministers perpetrating sexual misconduct and harassment. Refusing to stand behind Brittany Higgins in her allegations of rape against an LNP staffer. Refusing to listen to women for 3 straight years.
‘Met with bullets’
Telling the women of Australia that they should feel fortunate not to be “met with bullets” while protesting in the Women’s March for Justice.
Vaccine rollout bungled
Aged care homes left vulnerable. Immunocompromised Australians left waiting. No Pfizer vaccines ordered for months. Mixed communication on vaccine safety. This was the COVID legacy of the Morrison government.
A ‘psycho’ and ‘a bully’
It doesn’t bode well for your overall leadership cred when several of your senior colleagues have slammed you as a complete tyrannical narcissist.
No new commitments
On climate change. At any point, ever.
