On International Day of Education, UNESCO highlights that girls and women in Afghanistan are still fighting for their right to education.

The Taliban have issued a noticed in the last 24 hours calling on schools for girls over Year 6 to be shut “in accordance with Islamic law”

Weeks after four female anti-Taliban activists went missing, presumed detained, Afghanistan’s “de facto authorities” have released them. 

The Taliban has ruled women will “not be permitted to play sports as it will expose their bodies or expose them to the media.”
