She made the announcement on Good Morning America on Monday, before releasing her launch video and a series of tweets and videos highlighting her values. A number of political writers in the United States have already declared she’ll be a promising and formidable opponent for Trump.
“We’re facing a leadership crisis in the White House,” Harris tweeted. “From referring to white supremacists as “very fine people,” to putting children in cages, to sabotaging our country’s health care, we know America can be better than this — but it’s on us to build it.”

She’s for tax reform, Medicare for all and green energy, among other progressive platform initiatives. Her charisma and appeal has already seen her compared to Barack Obama. She’s also intentionally sharing her personal story as the daughter of immigrants and how her upbringing has helped shaped her values, which is already setting her apart from other candidates.
First elected to the Senate in 2016, the 54-year-old gained significant attention for her questioning of Brett Kavanaugh last year, as well as her time on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Harris served as a prosecutor for more than 20 years, is a former Attorney-General in California and published her book at the start of the year, sharing the story of her family arriving in the United States. She’s a civil rights advocate who says she grew up with a “stroller’s-eye view” of the civil rights movements because her parents took their children to plenty of protests. She officiated the first legal same sex marriage in California in 2013
In her launch video, she said she’ll fights for truth, justice, decency, equality, and democracy because, “They’re the values we as Americans cherish, and they’re all on the line now.
She said she stands for what the President is against, and what California stands for.
She’s part of what’s expected to be a wide field of candidates, and one of a number of African-American women to put up their hand. She made the announcement on Martin Luther King Jr Day.
And she’s up there with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex in achieving high social media engagement among the Democrat politicians.
Thinking of my mother today. She was smart, fierce, and my first campaign staffer — and I dearly wish she was here with us for this moment. Her spirit still drives me to fight for our values. pic.twitter.com/pf0lFrvoWI

Now sit back and watch Trump try and swing juvenile and possibly sexist and racist comments Harris’ way in an effort to discredit her.
In the meantime, enjoy this video of Harris taking on Brett Kavanaugh during his Supreme Court nomination hearing.
