Western Sydney Uni gets a new Dean of Law with Anna Cody appointed

Associate Professor Anna Cody has been appointed as the new Dean of Law at Western Sydney University, taking up the new role in April 2019.

Cody’s the current director of Kingsford Legal Centre at the University of New South Wales. She’s a Harvard graduate with a distinguished background in human rights law and legal education, and currently sits on the boards of the National Association of Community Legal Centres and Legal Aid NSW.

Her time as director of UNSW’s Kingsford Legal Centre has resulted in some remarkable achievements, including securing a funding increase from $500,000 to $1.2 million per annum and new programs seeing the centre teaching clinical components of interviewing clients to all Lawyers, Ethics and Justice Students — unique both in Australia and globally.

Cody has also developed and teaches two new courses: Family Law and Domestic Violence clinical course and Legal Aid and Global Justice Lawyering.

Vice Chancellor of UWS, Professor Barney Glover said on the appointment: “Associate Professor Cody’s background in human rights law and legal education, as well as her extensive leadership experience across both the education and not-for-profit legal sectors, will be invaluable to the role of Dean of the School of Law”.
