Three ways to make your work make up work for you

Work make up can be tricky territory. You want to look professional, without going too OTT, all the while making sure office lighting (fluorescents can highlight any imperfections and make your complexion more sallow than a bad morning coffee brew) and continual air-conditioning or heating (which can be incredibly drying) don’t mess with the face you’ve created that morning!

To make sure your face of makeup stays looking fresh all day long, try these three easy tips…

Perfect your use of a primer
Primers should be as much a part of your regular skincare routine as your cleanser or moisturiser. That’s because they do not one, but two important tasks for the good of your makeup. They not only create a great base for your foundation to sit on top of, but they also help it last a lot longer. And after going to all the effort to apply your foundation perfectly, why not make sure it sticks around? I’m a big fan of the Inika Certified Organic Pure Primer. Natural, organic, and ideal for dry to normal skin, it will act as a lightweight barrier for your foundation, stopping it from ‘sinking in’ to your skin, as well as nourishing your face – so it won’t feel dry come the afternoon. Simply smooth over a pea-sized amount to the areas that you apply your foundation to, after your moisturiser. Then wait a few minutes before applying your makeup. This will help it to create a good barrier base and keep your makeup in check all day.

Add some hydration to your concealer
Compared to anywhere else, under the eyes is one of the first places that makeup can ‘crack’, dry out and look a little worse for wear. A great remedy is adding a little extra hydration. Try mixing a touch of Gatineau Aquamemory Moisture Replenish Cream into your everyday under-eye concealer (don’t try this if you are trying hide blemishes, as it usually needs all the pigment possible to cover up redness and spots!) before patting it gently on. This gorgeous Gatineau product has a beautiful translucent shade and contains ingredients that maximize your skin’s ability to hold on to its own moisture, so it is perfect for this purpose! By adding an extra hit of hydration, your makeup will stay light and dewy for longer, which in turn will help your eyes look more awake!

If all else fails, add a little shimmer
If you feel like your base has packed up and gone home early for the day, there is one last thing you can do to make your makeup work again for you – add a little shimmer. By swiping on a touch of creamy illuminator to the high plains of your face (your cheek bones, your brow bones, down the bridge of your nose, and your cupids bow above your lip) you’ll instantly draw light to your face making your makeup look refreshed. The Bloom Cream Blush Duo is great for this purpose, housed in a cute compact with mirror for touch ups on the go, you can apply anywhere. It also comes with a pretty rose-tinted blush to add a little natural colour to your complexion too.
