Treston will lead the body representing the Bar practising in Queensland. She was first admitted to the Bar in 1996 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2013.
Queensland Attorney-General Yvette D’Ath congratulated Treston on the achievement, saying she has already enjoyed a “constructive working relationship” with Treston during her time as Vice President of the Association.
“This prestigious honour is made even more special by the fact Ms Treston was elected unopposed as the Bar’s first female President,” she said.
Treston replaces Sandy Thompson QC, and will be supported by incoming vice president, Thomas Sullivan QC.
Thank you to everyone for the good wishes. I am thrilled and humbled by your support. Looking forward to leading the @QldBar as @QldBarPresident #qldlaw https://t.co/eSMPdr6nSK

Coincidence that in the same week @QldBar elects first female President, the new season of House of Cards with the first female President is released? I think not. @rebecca_treston #houseofcards #qldbar
